Virtual nature escape could calm dialysis patients
NCT ID NCT07704008
First seen Jul 15, 2026 · Last updated Jul 16, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether wearing virtual reality glasses and watching a calming nature video during hemodialysis can help lower anxiety and keep vital signs stable. Researchers are enrolling 56 adults who are receiving dialysis for the first time. Half will watch a 4K nature video with relaxing music through VR glasses during their session, while the other half receives standard care. The study measures changes in blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, oxygen levels, temperature, and anxiety scores.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- virtual reality glasses showing a 4K nature video with calming background music
- What this could lead to
- If effective, virtual reality could become a simple, drug-free way to ease anxiety and improve comfort during hemodialysis.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 56 participants, so results may not apply to all dialysis patients. The effect may be due to the relaxing video rather than the virtual reality itself.
