New blood test could spot colon cancer before it spreads

NCT ID NCT06342440

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing a new blood test called DENEB that looks for tiny molecules (microRNAs) to find colorectal cancer and precancerous polyps early. Researchers will collect blood samples from 2,000 people who are also getting a colonoscopy. The goal is to see if the blood test is accurate and could one day offer a simpler, less invasive way to screen for colorectal cancer.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

DENEB blood test (measures microRNA levels)

What this could lead to

If successful, this blood test could offer a simple, non-invasive way to catch colorectal cancer and precancerous polyps early, potentially saving lives through earlier treatment.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study still recruiting participants. The test may not be accurate enough to replace colonoscopy, and results may not apply to everyone.
