8,320 adults tracked for years to uncover hidden disease risks
NCT ID NCT03197363
First seen Oct 16, 2026 · Last updated Oct 16, 2026
Summary
Researchers in Bialystok, Poland, are following 8,320 randomly selected residents aged 20 to 80 to understand how common diseases develop. Participants undergo imaging, physical tests, and detailed questionnaires about lifestyle and health. The goal is to find new risk factors for heart disease, diabetes, obesity, lung disease, neurodegenerative disease, and cancer. By linking this data with stored biological samples, the study aims to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If researchers identify new risk factors, this could improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for heart disease, diabetes, and other common conditions.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Findings may not apply to people outside Bialystok, and the long follow-up means results take years.
