Summary

Researchers in Malaysia are testing whether personalised WhatsApp messages can help people act on heart risk screening results. Adults screened at community NADI centres who have moderate or high cardiovascular risk join the study. Half receive standard risk feedback and referral letters, while the other half also get 90 days of tailored nudges, reminders, and barrier-solving messages. The trial tracks whether participants complete recommended checks like blood pressure, glucose, or lipid tests, or attend a doctor visit.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Personalised WhatsApp behavioural nudges
What this could lead to
If the nudges work, health systems could use cheap messaging to turn heart risk screening into real preventive action, such as blood tests and doctor visits.
What could go wrong
People may ignore messages, change phone numbers, or face clinic barriers that messages cannot fix. The trial measures actions like check-ups, not whether heart attacks or strokes are prevented.
