New stitch could speed up hysterectomy surgery

NCT ID NCT06024109

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares a new barbed suture (SYMMCORA) with a standard one (V-Loc) for closing the vaginal cuff after laparoscopic hysterectomy. The goal is to see if the new suture reduces stitching time without increasing complications. About 132 women having elective laparoscopic hysterectomy will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

SYMMCORA® mid-term unidirectional barbed suture (a medical device used to close tissue during surgery)

What this could lead to

If this suture works better, it could make laparoscopic hysterectomy faster and safer by reducing time spent closing the vaginal cuff.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small trial (132 people) comparing two already-approved sutures, so any advantage may be modest and not change practice. Complications like infection or cuff separation are still possible.
