Could a simple air purifier boost lung health in preterm infants?
NCT ID NCT07236996
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using an air purifier at home can improve lung development in babies born prematurely (before 37 weeks). Researchers will measure indoor air quality and the babies' breathing at home, with and without the purifier. 180 infants up to age 6 are being recruited. The goal is to see if cleaner air helps reduce lung problems common in preemies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
air purifier
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that using an air purifier at home helps preterm babies' lungs develop better after leaving the hospital.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study without a control group. The results may not apply to all preterm infants, and the air purifier may not make a meaningful difference in lung health.
