Could your own blood ease knee arthritis pain?

NCT ID NCT06329492

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested whether an injection made from a patient's own blood, called A2MRP, is safe and can help with moderate knee osteoarthritis. Twenty adults with painful knee OA received a single ultrasound-guided injection. Researchers tracked side effects and measured pain and function changes over time. The goal was to see if this approach is worth studying further.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Autologous alpha-2 macroglobulin rich plasma (A2MRP) - a concentrated protein solution made from the patient's own blood

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, safe injection that reduces knee pain and slows damage from osteoarthritis without surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-phase pilot study with only 20 people. It is not designed to prove effectiveness, only to check safety and gather initial data. The treatment may not provide meaningful pain relief.
