Could a lifestyle makeover keep your brain sharp?
NCT ID NCT05007353
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a structured lifestyle program—combining exercise, healthy eating, cognitive training, and social activities—can slow cognitive decline in older adults at risk of dementia. Participants aged 60-80 with modifiable risk factors will be randomly assigned to either the intensive program or a self-guided education group. The study aims to see if these lifestyle changes can protect memory and thinking over two years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Structured Lifestyle Intervention (SLI) - a program combining physical exercise, healthy diet, cognitive training, social stimulation, and vascular risk management
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a practical, non-drug approach to delay cognitive decline and dementia in at-risk older adults.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is large but results depend on long-term adherence; lifestyle changes may be hard to sustain, and benefits might not be significant.
