Pig cell transplant trial aims to free type 1 diabetes patients from severe lows
NCT ID NCT06575426
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This early-phase study tests a new treatment called OPF-310, which uses pig islet cells (the cells that make insulin) placed inside tiny capsules. The goal is to see if transplanting these cells is safe and can help adults with unstable type 1 diabetes who still have dangerous low blood sugar episodes despite using an automated insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor. Up to 13 participants will receive increasing doses of the cells and be followed for a year to check blood sugar control and reduction in severe hypoglycemia.
