New study aims to Fine-Tune radiation for liver cancer spread

NCT ID NCT04668872

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how Y90 radioembolization, a radiation treatment for liver tumors that have spread from colorectal cancer, actually works inside the body. Researchers will collect small tissue samples (biopsies) from the liver after treatment to see how much tumor damage occurs based on the radiation dose given. The goal is to better understand the treatment's effects, which could help doctors improve how they deliver radiation in the future. About 80 adults with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver and cannot be surgically removed will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Yttrium-90 (Y90) radiation delivered via transarterial radioembolization (TARE)

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could improve how doctors plan Y90 radioembolization for liver metastases, potentially making treatment more effective.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early feasibility study focused on gathering data, not testing a new treatment. It may not lead to immediate changes in patient care.
