First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether whole-body vibration (standing on a vibrating platform) can help overweight and obese university students lose weight and improve body composition. Thirty-two students aged 18-25 with a BMI of 25 or higher took part. Half stood on a real vibrating device, the other half on a sham (non-vibrating) platform. Researchers measured changes in BMI, waist size, body fat, and lean mass.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, exercise-free way to help overweight young adults reduce body fat and improve body composition.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study with only 32 participants. The vibration effect may be small or no better than standing still, and results may not apply to older or more obese people.
