Summary

This pilot study at Mayo Clinic is testing a special low-calorie, high-protein tube feeding formula called Peptamen Intense VHP in 12 obese patients who rely on tube feeding. The goal is to see if it helps them lose weight while maintaining muscle mass, and also improves blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol. The study is small and early, so results will need confirmation in larger trials.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Peptamen Intense VHP (a high-protein, low-calorie tube feeding formula)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a safe way for obese patients who rely on tube feeding to lose weight and improve health markers like blood pressure and blood sugar.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 12 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The formula may cause digestive issues or not lead to significant weight loss.
