NCT ID NCT06123715
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether taking vitamin C around the time of knee replacement surgery can reduce long-term pain. About 400 adults having knee replacement will be randomly assigned to receive vitamin C or a placebo for 8 weeks. The main goal is to see if a larger study is possible, but researchers will also track pain levels for a year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to reduce chronic pain after knee replacement surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study focused on feasibility, not proof of effectiveness. Vitamin C may not reduce pain, and results may not apply to all patients.
