This study tests whether a non-invasive ultrasound of the internal jugular vein in the neck can estimate central venous pressure (CVP), a key measure of fluid status in critically ill patients. Traditionally, doctors estimate this by looking at the neck veins, but that is often inaccurate, especially in obese or very ill patients. The study will compare ultrasound measurements of vein diameter and collapsibility with direct pressure readings in 100 adults who need a central line. If the ultrasound matches well, it could offer a safer, easier way to monitor patients.
