First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This Phase 2a trial tests TH104, a nalmefene strip placed inside the cheek, for moderate to severe itching in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). About 40 adults with PBC will receive either TH104 or a placebo to see if it safely reduces itch. The study is not yet recruiting.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Nalmefene (given as a dissolvable strip placed inside the cheek)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for severe itching in people with primary biliary cholangitis.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 2a study with only 40 people, focused mainly on safety. It may not show enough benefit to move forward, and side effects are possible.
