First seen Jun 14, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a structured education program could help hemodialysis patients better manage chronic itching and improve their quality of life. 104 patients were split into two groups: one received two face-to-face educational sessions based on the Health Belief Model, while the other received standard care. Researchers measured itch severity and itch-related quality of life at the start and after 45 days.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Health Belief Model-based education (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If effective, this educational approach could offer a simple, drug-free way to help hemodialysis patients better manage chronic itching and improve their daily comfort.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 104 participants. The intervention is educational, so benefits may be modest and depend on patient engagement. Results may not apply to all dialysis patients.
