AI may outsmart current system for liver transplant priority
NCT ID NCT06675604
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This European study is collecting health data from 4,500 adults listed for liver transplantation across 50 centers. The goal is to design and test new AI-based models that predict which patients are most likely to die or become too sick for transplant while waiting. If accurate, these models could replace the current scoring system and improve fairness in organ allocation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to fairer and more accurate liver transplant allocation, saving more lives by prioritizing the sickest patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational data-collection study, not a treatment trial. The AI models may not improve predictions enough to change current practices.
This is an AI summary of the original study and may miss details. Read our disclaimer.
