Shorter virtual brain training could ease memory decline in seniors

NCT ID NCT07366346

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a 5-week virtual cognitive training program for people aged 65-85 with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Participants attend weekly two-hour group sessions online, learning memory strategies, mindfulness, and planning skills. Researchers want to see if the shorter program works as well as the standard 8-week version to improve thinking, daily function, and quality of life. The trial involves 100 participants and includes follow-up tests right after training and three months later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Motivationally Enhanced Compensatory Cognitive Training (ME-CCT-MCI) - a behavioral program with cognitive strategies, physical activity, and mindfulness

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a shorter, more accessible virtual cognitive training option that improves memory, daily function, and quality of life for people with mild cognitive impairment.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage trial with only 100 participants, and the shorter training may not be as effective as the longer version. Results may not apply to all people with MCI.
