Cancer drug targets BRCA mutations beyond breast and ovarian
NCT ID NCT02286687
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests the drug talazoparib in 150 people with advanced cancers that have not responded to standard treatments. Participants must have specific gene changes in BRCA1, BRCA2, or related DNA repair genes. The drug works by blocking an enzyme that helps cancer cells survive, potentially shrinking tumors or slowing the disease. The study focuses on cancers other than breast or ovarian.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
talazoparib (a PARP inhibitor pill)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new treatment option for people with advanced cancers that have specific BRCA or related gene changes, potentially shrinking tumors or delaying progression.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with only 150 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Talazoparib can cause side effects like fatigue, nausea, and low blood counts, and the cancer may still grow despite treatment.
