New heart procedure could reduce transplants in End-Stage heart failure patients
NCT ID NCT07332871
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new approach for people with end-stage heart failure and permanent atrial fibrillation who are waiting for a heart transplant or heart pump. Participants will receive either a standard implantable defibrillator (ICD) alone or an ICD plus a special pacing lead and a targeted ablation to regularize the heart's rhythm. The goal is to see if the combined procedure lowers the risk of death, heart failure hospitalizations, or the need for urgent transplant over one year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) lead and atrioventricular junction (AVJ) ablation procedure, combined with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)
What this could lead to
If successful, this combined procedure could reduce deaths and hospitalizations in end-stage heart failure patients with atrial fibrillation, potentially delaying the need for heart transplant or LVAD.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial (120 participants) with a 1-year follow-up, so results may not apply to all patients. The procedure carries risks such as bleeding, infection, or heart rhythm complications.
