Could surgery reverse diabetes damage in teens?
NCT ID NCT03620773
Summary
This study looked at whether weight-loss surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) could improve the health of the pancreas, kidneys, and heart in young people (ages 12-21) with type 2 diabetes. Researchers measured organ function in about 50 participants before and after surgery to understand how the procedure helps beyond just weight loss. The goal was to find better ways to prevent long-term complications like kidney and heart disease in youth with diabetes.
