New blood test could reveal stroke damage in real time

NCT ID NCT06121336

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will measure a protein called BD-tau in the blood of 100 people who have had an acute ischemic stroke. Researchers will take blood samples every hour for 48 hours to see how the protein levels change over time. The goal is to better understand brain injury patterns and potentially develop a simple blood test to guide treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simple blood test that helps doctors quickly assess brain damage and predict recovery after a stroke.

What could go wrong

This is an early observational study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The biomarker may not prove reliable enough for routine use.
