Small study explores how genetics affect diabetes drug response
NCT ID NCT04323189
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study looks at how the diabetes drug sitagliptin (Januvia) affects people who naturally have lower levels of a protein called DPP4 due to their genes. Researchers will compare 20 adults with and without this genetic trait to see how sitagliptin changes blood sugar and DPP4 activity after a meal. The goal is to better understand how genetics influence drug response, not to test a new treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Sitagliptin (Januvia)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help explain why some people respond differently to sitagliptin, potentially leading to more personalized diabetes treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to the general population. It is designed to gather information, not to prove a new treatment works.
