Muscle scans may reveal hidden death risk in ICU patients
NCT ID NCT07483710
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether muscle measurements from a CT scan taken when a patient is admitted to the ICU for septic shock can predict their risk of dying within 3 months after leaving the ICU. Researchers will analyze muscle size, density, and fat content from the scan and compare it to survival. The goal is to find a simple way to identify high-risk patients early.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify high-risk septic shock patients earlier using a simple CT scan, potentially guiding more aggressive care.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for a link between muscle measures and death risk, so it cannot prove cause or improve outcomes directly.
