Sweet vs. cool: do men and women react differently to E-Cig flavors?
NCT ID NCT05432830
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study at Yale University looked at how 66 adult smokers (ages 21-44) perceive sweet, cooling, and unflavored e-cigarette liquids. Participants tried each flavor and rated its appeal, sensory effects, and how much they wanted it compared to money. The goal was to see if men and women respond differently to these flavors, which could inform future smoking reduction strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
E-liquid with 36 mg/ml nicotine in sweet, cooling, or unflavored flavors
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could help tailor e-cigarette flavors to reduce smoking in a sex-specific way.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed observational study with only 66 participants, so findings may not apply broadly. It does not test a treatment or health outcome.
