Zapping a single tumor may keep breast cancer in check

NCT ID NCT05534438

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 38 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving a precise, high-dose radiation treatment called SBRT to one growing tumor can help people with metastatic breast cancer keep their disease under control. Participants continue their usual drug therapy while receiving SBRT to a single site where cancer has worsened. The goal is to see if this approach prevents cancer from spreading further or getting worse elsewhere.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could help people with metastatic breast cancer delay further cancer spread and stay on their current treatment longer.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 46 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. SBRT can cause side effects like fatigue or pain at the treated site.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.

breast cancer breast carcinoma breast neoplasm estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer HER2 positive breast carcinoma

As listed by the trial registrant
