Shoulder tear study aims to save nerves

NCT ID NCT06002009

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how the size and type of rotator cuff tear affects the suprascapular nerve in the shoulder. Researchers will use MRI scans and nerve tests on 250 adults to see which tears cause nerve damage. They also want to find out if surgical repair can help the nerve recover. The goal is to improve treatment decisions for people with rotator cuff tears.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help doctors predict nerve damage from rotator cuff tears and optimize surgical repair timing.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not lead to immediate clinical changes, and results depend on accurate nerve testing.
