Prayer and breathing: a new way to ease dialysis anxiety?

NCT ID NCT07412548

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether combining relaxation exercises with listening to a specific Quran chapter (Surah Ar-Rahman) can reduce anxiety and improve sleep in people undergoing kidney dialysis. 76 adult Muslim patients will be split into two groups: one doing the relaxation and Quran therapy, and the other listening to music. Their anxiety, sleep quality, and vital signs will be checked before and after six weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
autogenic relaxation and Quran recitation therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help dialysis patients feel less anxious and sleep better.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 76 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefits may be due to the extra attention patients receive rather than the therapy itself.
