A simple stretch during dialysis might soothe restless legs

NCT ID NCT07748065

First seen Aug 05, 2026 · Last updated Aug 06, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether a physical therapy technique called Muscle Energy Technique (MET) can reduce restless legs syndrome in people with end-stage kidney disease who are on hemodialysis. Participants receive either routine dialysis care or the same care plus MET during their dialysis sessions, three times a week for eight weeks. Researchers will measure changes in restless legs severity, sleep quality, muscle strength, blood pressure, and oxygen levels to see if adding MET provides extra benefits.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Muscle Energy Technique (MET), a physical therapy procedure performed during dialysis sessions
What this could lead to
If effective, this simple, drug-free technique could offer a way to ease restless legs and improve sleep and strength in people on dialysis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply broadly. The technique may not reduce symptoms, and benefits could be modest.
