New website aims to lighten the load for dementia caregivers

NCT ID NCT06557863

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study tested a website tool called WeCareToFeedDysphagia designed to reduce feelings of burden in caregivers of people with Alzheimer's or related dementias who also have trouble swallowing. Eighty caregivers were split into two groups: one got access to the tool plus expert contact, the other got only expert contact. The study measured caregiver burden at 1 and 3 months after the patient left the hospital, aiming to see if the tool helps and whether a larger trial is possible.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

WeCareToFeedDysphagia web tool (behavioral intervention)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a simple, low-cost way to reduce stress and burden for caregivers of people with dementia and swallowing difficulties.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to all caregivers. The tool may not significantly reduce burden, and the study is not designed to prove effectiveness yet.
