Blood test could track breast cancer in real time
NCT ID NCT04906369
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether regular blood tests can detect changes in stage IV breast cancer during treatment. Researchers will collect blood samples from 150 adults with metastatic breast cancer and analyze them for tumor DNA. The goal is to see if these tests can spot when the cancer is getting worse, potentially helping doctors make better treatment decisions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple blood test that helps doctors monitor metastatic breast cancer in real time and adjust treatment more effectively.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. The blood test may not reliably detect cancer changes, and results may not improve patient outcomes.
