First seen Jan 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tests a structured rehabilitation pathway for people having lumbar surgery for leg pain caused by a pinched nerve. The pathway includes pre-surgery exercise, early movement after surgery, and active guidance to return to work. Researchers will compare time to return to work in 480 patients across hospitals that use the new pathway versus usual care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

structured rehabilitation pathway (pre-, peri-, and postoperative care, case management, early return-to-work guidance)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a proven rehab plan that helps people get back to work faster after lumbar surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a behavioral intervention, not a drug, so results depend on hospital and patient adherence. The trial is still recruiting, and outcomes may vary across settings.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.
