New procedure targets lung pressure in heart failure: pilot study complete

NCT ID NCT05996562

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested a procedure called pulmonary artery denervation (PADN) in 30 adults with combined high blood pressure in the lungs and chronic heart failure. The procedure uses radiofrequency energy to disrupt certain nerves in the lung's blood vessels, aiming to lower pressure and improve exercise capacity. Participants were followed for one year to check safety and effectiveness.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Pulmonary artery denervation (a procedure using radiofrequency ablation to disrupt nerves in the lung's blood vessels)

What this could lead to

If this works, it could offer a new way to improve exercise ability and manage combined lung and heart pressure problems in people with chronic heart failure.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 30 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure involves risks like bleeding or vessel damage, and it's too early to know if it's truly effective.
