First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested if placing patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) on their stomachs (prone position) for at least 16 hours a day could lower the chance of dying. 474 adults on breathing machines were randomly assigned to either prone or standard (face-up) care. The main goal was to see if prone positioning reduced deaths within 28 days.
