First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a program called PRISM that teaches stress management, goal-setting, and coping skills to adolescents and young adults (ages 12-24) with advanced cancer. Researchers wanted to see if it could improve quality of life and reduce anxiety and depression. The program involves several one-on-one coaching sessions and was compared to usual care in a randomized trial across multiple hospitals.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Promoting Resilience in Stress Management (PRISM) behavioral intervention
What this could lead to
If it works, this program could help teens and young adults with advanced cancer feel better emotionally and cope more effectively with their illness.
What could go wrong
This is a completed trial with 195 participants, but the intervention is behavioral—it may not work for everyone, and benefits might be modest or not last long-term.
