Can special goggles reduce CRPS pain? new study tests prism therapy

NCT ID NCT07370012

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether wearing prism goggles during pointing exercises can reduce pain in people with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) type I. Fifty-four patients with CRPS after a wrist fracture or surgery were split into two groups: one used real prism goggles, the other used sham goggles. Both groups also received standard physical therapy. The goal was to see if prism adaptation therapy could lower pain intensity and improve other symptoms like joint movement.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

prism adaptation therapy using prismatic-lens goggles

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, non-drug way to ease pain and improve movement for people with CRPS.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early study with only 54 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and the therapy might not work better than a sham treatment.
