Can a High-Tech Hot-Cold wrap beat a classic whirlpool for chronic pain?
NCT ID NCT07744269
First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a device that combines hot and cold therapy with gentle compression can reduce pain, swelling, and improve hand function in people with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) after a hand or wrist injury. Half of the participants will use this combined therapy, while the other half will receive standard whirlpool therapy. The goal is to see which approach offers better relief for this often painful and disabling condition.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Combined contrast therapy with intermittent compression using the Game Ready MED4 Elite device
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a more targeted, non-drug way to ease pain and swelling and speed recovery of hand function in people with post-traumatic CRPS.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply broadly. The therapy may not outperform whirlpool, and individual responses can vary.
