First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will test whether taking prednisone for 5 days after knee or hip replacement surgery helps reduce pain, swelling, and the need for opioids compared to the standard steroid given only during surgery. About 104 adults will participate, and their blood sugar will be tracked continuously with a monitor. The trial has not yet started recruiting.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
prednisone
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, short steroid regimen that improves recovery after joint replacement surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (104 people) that hasn't started recruiting yet. Prednisone can raise blood sugar, and people with uncontrolled diabetes are excluded. Results may not apply to everyone.
