Can custom ventilation save more ARDS lungs?
NCT ID NCT06066502
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether a personalized breathing machine strategy can improve survival in people with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a severe lung condition. About 1,100 adults on ventilators will be randomly assigned to either standard care or a precision approach that adjusts settings based on each patient's lung mechanics. The main goal is to see if the personalized strategy reduces deaths within 60 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- precision ventilation strategy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this personalized ventilation approach could reduce deaths from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) by tailoring breathing support to each patient's lung mechanics.
- What could go wrong
- This is a large phase 3 trial, but the intervention is complex and may not improve survival over standard care. Results may not apply to all ARDS patients.
