Smartwatch could spot dangerous blood pressure spikes after childbirth

NCT ID NCT06576544

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study gives 300 new mothers a medical-grade smartwatch that tracks blood pressure multiple times daily for 6 weeks after delivery. Researchers want to see if daily blood pressure patterns differ between low-risk, intermediate-risk, and high-risk groups. The goal is to better predict who might develop complications from postpartum hypertension and when to intervene. The watch is not FDA-cleared, so it is used only for data collection, not treatment decisions.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

YHE® BP Doctor Med Blood Pressure Smartwatch (non-invasive wearable device)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better ways to predict which new mothers are at risk for postpartum hypertension and help prevent serious complications.

What could go wrong

This is an early observational study with only 300 participants, and the device is not FDA-cleared for treatment decisions. Results may not apply to all populations.
