Can a 'Nervous System' therapy help people with obesity tune into their bodies?
NCT ID NCT07315763
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a 6-session group therapy based on polyvagal theory, designed to help people with obesity become more aware of body signals and better manage emotions. Ten participants from an NHS weight management service will be randomly assigned to start the therapy after 14 or 21 days. They will track daily changes in body awareness, emotional regulation, and skills practice. The goal is to see if this approach can improve the mind-body connection and reduce emotional eating.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
polyvagal-informed group skills training (behavioural therapy)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new therapy to help people with obesity better understand body signals and manage emotions, potentially reducing emotional eating.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It's not yet recruiting, and the intervention is behavioural, so effects may be modest.
