Blood clot clues: how platelets may worsen septic shock

NCT ID NCT02635854

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looked at how platelets (blood cells that help clotting) become activated in people with septic shock, a life-threatening infection that causes organ failure. Researchers measured specific markers on platelets and platelet-white blood cell clumps in the blood of 27 patients in the ICU. The goal was to better understand if these changes contribute to organ damage, which could guide future treatments.
