Kidney patients take charge of blood pressure in new trial
NCT ID NCT05546099
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether people with chronic kidney disease can safely adjust their own blood pressure medications at home, guided by a pharmacist. 160 veterans with uncontrolled high blood pressure and stage 2-4 kidney disease will either self-manage their meds or just monitor their BP at home. The goal is to see if self-management leads to better blood pressure control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
self-management of blood pressure medications
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give people with kidney disease a practical way to better control their blood pressure at home, reducing heart and kidney risks.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial in veterans only, so results may not apply to everyone. Self-adjusting medications carries a risk of incorrect dosing or side effects.
