Tiny study probes intubation dangers in morbidly obese patients

NCT ID NCT07297420

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will look back at medical records of critically ill trauma patients with severe obesity who needed a breathing tube in the ICU. It aims to compare how often dangerous airway events happen in patients with morbid obesity versus super obesity, and whether higher BMI makes complications more likely. Only 2 patients will be included, so the findings will be very limited.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better predict and prevent dangerous airway events during intubation in very obese patients.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage retrospective analysis with only 2 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It only looks back at past records, not testing a new treatment.
