NCT ID NCT07251478
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests a 3-5 minute recorded message called PEACE, designed to improve mental wellbeing and public attitudes toward reintegrating former Boko Haram members in Nigeria. Researchers will enroll 74 adults to see if the intervention is acceptable and feasible. The goal is to reduce depression, anxiety, and stigma, but this is an early-stage trial focused on gathering data, not proving effectiveness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Prosociality, Empathy and Awareness Communication to aid rEintegration (PEACE) intervention
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a low-cost, scalable way to reduce stigma and improve mental health for communities reintegrating former members of extremist groups.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (74 participants) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. Results may not apply to other regions or populations, and the intervention is very brief (3-5 minutes).
