Could a simple scan replace biopsies for cancer immunotherapy?

NCT ID NCT07442292

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new PET imaging agent, 68Ga-cPP-BCH, to detect PD-L1 protein levels in tumors of people with lung cancer, melanoma, or other solid tumors. The goal is to see if this scan can identify who might benefit from anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy without needing a tissue biopsy. The trial plans to enroll 40 participants and has not yet started recruiting.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

68Ga-cPP-BCH (a radioactive peptide for PET imaging)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a non-invasive way to predict which patients will respond to immunotherapy, avoiding unnecessary treatments.

What could go wrong

This is an early, small study (40 participants) that has not yet started recruiting. The imaging method may not accurately reflect PD-L1 levels or predict treatment response.
