New brain scan method could reveal how Parkinson's progresses

NCT ID NCT05516719

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study uses special brain scans (PET, SPECT, and MRI) to look for a marker that shows how Parkinson's disease changes over time. Researchers will scan 44 people with Parkinson's to see if a compound called BU99008 can highlight brain cell activity linked to the disease. The goal is to find a better way to measure disease progression, not to test a new treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BU99008 tracer (for PET scan)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify a new way to track Parkinson's disease progression using brain scans, helping future research.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study. It is not testing a treatment, so there is no direct benefit to participants. The findings may not lead to a practical test.
