High-Dose heart drug tested for quick rhythm fix

NCT ID NCT04594746

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether a single high dose (2000 mg) of the oral medication amiodarone could safely and effectively restore normal heart rhythm in people with acute atrial fibrillation (a rapid, irregular heartbeat). The trial planned to include both hospitalized and outpatient adults with symptoms and recent onset of the condition. However, the study was terminated early after enrolling only 3 participants, so no reliable conclusions can be drawn.
