First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tested whether putting a heart-lung machine (ECPR) on the scene, rather than waiting until arrival at the hospital, could help more people survive a cardiac arrest with less brain damage. It included 221 adults aged 18-50 who had a witnessed cardiac arrest and didn't respond to standard CPR. The goal was to see if faster support leads to better survival and recovery.
