Blood pressure cuff could spot heart trouble in lung clot patients
NCT ID NCT04855370
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study aimed to see if a non-invasive finger cuff monitor could track heart function in people with a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lung). The device measures stroke volume and cardiac output continuously, which might help doctors detect early signs of heart failure. However, the trial was withdrawn before any patients were enrolled, so no results are available.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
non-invasive blood pressure monitor (Edwards ClearSight finger cuff system)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple, non-invasive way to monitor heart function in real time for people with pulmonary embolism, potentially helping doctors predict and prevent heart failure.
What could go wrong
This trial was withdrawn before enrolling any participants, so no data was collected. The approach is still experimental and unproven in this setting.
